About us

Ming Strike is a bilingual (Mandarin Chinese / English), independently produced podcast featuring interviews with transnational art workers and offering our reflections on current events in arts and culture from the lens of Asian art practitioners living in the UK. Since its launch in March 2020, Ming Strike has released over forty episodes, reaching listeners across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the UK, and Europe.

Ming Strike is also the name of the UK-based ESEA collective behind the podcast. Formerly known as Golden Arches & Silver Pan Chinese (GASP-C), the collective was founded in 2018 and currently includes Zhiyue Hu, Howl Yuan, and Mengting Zhuo, who work across contemporary performance-making and academic research. Through podcasting, zine publication and curated live projects, Ming Strike continues to explore performance and cultural practice across languages and contexts.

Our Manifesto

We want to advocate Asia as Method. We want to explore the trickiness of our in-between-ness: our locations, our identities, our interests. We want a community. We want to engage with our contemporaries. We want to have deep conversations with people. We know this world is a chaos, and that can be fun or made fun of sometimes if we allow voices to flow. We want to have some fun together as performers and scholars. We want to be the hecklers/rascals of the stereotypes and assumptions.
